ARGUMENT

This project intends to present to the international readers the complete list of the Romanian Philosophers having an accomplished work, in a series of concise articles devoted to their intellectual profiles. Another section of this portal, dedicated to the contemporary philosophers and philosophy scholars, will be further developed.

More than 75 authors contribute to the 350 articles included in this Encyclopedia. Our project is also supported by a scientific board composed by 20 scholars working in Romanian Universities and abroad.

Under the title "Romanian Philosophers" we include first of all the authors having an original philosophical perspective, with essential contributions to various philosophical fields, possessing thus a transnational significance. We also include articles devoted to authors that, without being internationally known, are however important for the history of Romanian philosophy. Finally, we will not neglect the profiles of exegetes and researchers having significant interpretative works in specific philosophical domains.

The structure of each article will include a short presentation of the life of the presented author, a short description of the main works, as well as a primary and secondary bibliography. We will include then a section of further reading, for those interested to explore in detail the work presented here in a synthetic way.

ABOUT OUR LOGO

The chariot with the two horses depicted in our logo is a reference to Plato's 'Phaedrus' (246a-d). The black horse represented here stands for the historical difficulties of the Romanian culture, especially the painful four decades of Communism when Philosophy was one of the most oppressed academic disciplines, being for the most part reduced to the ideological propaganda. On the other hand, the white horse is meant to symbolize the authentic efforts to produce genuine philosophical thinking, even during the times of lack of liberty.
